Prep time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: –
Makes: 2 glasses
Ingredients
1/2 apple
1/2 orange
1 1/2tbsp brown sugar
1/2 cup orange juice
3tbsp brandy
1/2 bottle red wine (375ml)
Ice cubes
1. A sangria a day keeps the doctor away
Chop up 1/2 apple and 1/2 an orange into slices and pop them in the bottom of a suitable vessel aka a jug.

Add 1 1/2 tbsp of brown sugar to these slices in the jug, and muddle it together with a wooden spoon for about 45 seconds aka bash the hell out of it with a wooden spoon (preferably a round one, the flat handle was a bit difficult to work with…)

Next add in 1/2 cup of orange juice and 3tbsp of brandy and muddle again.

Add 1/2 bottle of red wine to this concoction and stir it together like the great potion-master you are – no muddling this time! Give it a little taste and adjust quantities as desired.

Add ice as required and serve as is, or leave to cool in the fridge a little longer. Our jug was so proud to be holding the sangria, it looks like he’s puffing out his chest with pride… :’)

Decant, dink and drink!

Food for Thought

Lizzy says: “This was the summer drink of dreams. Very refreshing and sweet and perfect for the hot hot days of Munich in August. My only critique is that it was a little too boozey so wasn’t best suited as a sipping drink. I think in future I would make this with alcohol free wine to mellow out the kick it had. 7/10 “
Kate says: “After a long few days of cycling, a sangria night with a romcom is the perfect white girl activity to chill out. This was great for a very hot evening in August, and even though our faces in the dink and sink look disgusted I think that was more from the alcohol strength than the taste. Once the icecubes melted a bit it was much better. Of course, the best bit of any sangria is eating the fruit at the end which I thoroughly enjoyed. I think I would make sangria again but would probably play around with the recipe quantities a bit to make it completely to my taste 9/10”
