Easter Nests

The Easter Bunny has been and confusedly laid lots of eggs, but don’t worry because they are chocolate so there is obviously no need to question the physiognomy of that.. celebrate Easter with these chocolate nests; recipe from BBC Food.

Prep time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 1 hour
Makes: 12 nests

Ingredients
225g dark chocolate, broken into pieces
2 tbsp golden syrup
50g butter
75g cornflakes (or shredded wheat)
36 mini chocolate eggs

1. Hold the cupcake cases steady Hodor

In a pretty little line, uniform enough to make some uncooperative daffodils jealous, spread out 12 cupcake cases.

Once you have your battalion of cases, move onto the making process. Set a pyrex bowl over some water simmering in a sauce pan (don’t cry for me ban maria). To the bowl add 225g chocolate, 2 tbsp golden syrup and 50g butter.

Stir the mixture until has melted down and become smooth.

Remove the tempting chocolate mix from the bain marie and stir in 75g cornflakes. Keep stirring until all of the cereal is coated.

Divide the cornflake chocolate hybrid between your twelve primed cupcake cases. Once they are all filled up, plop 3 mini eggs atop each of your nests. Just like a bird has come along and brought some fresh chocolately life into the world!

Chill your nests in the fridge for an hour, so that the eggs don’t incubate and hatch little chocco chicks.

After an hour…

Dink and sink!

Food for Thought

Lizzy says: “These are such a childhood staple of Easter and I was so happy Kate suggested making them. I have to say though, I delayed going to the big supermarket and had to buy a super family sized box of shredded wheat last minute(which I still have most of in my cupboard as I’m writing this). The end result was still delicious, for nostalgias sake, but in future I would be sure to source the right ingredients and probably also milk chocolate instead of dark. 7/10

Kate says: “Crispy, cronchy and downright Eastery. These for me are such a signal of spring but really do require those mini eggs from the UK to make them work. Actually the mini eggs are the best bit and the nest is merely a vessel to carry them to your mouth. Also, beware these nests are SHARP and can cut up your mouth if you don’t eat them carefully. 8/10 pretty hard to source some ingredients”
